Smoothies Prep Sunday

It’s back to the kitchen for me as I prep for my week of greens and juices. 
For the life of me I’m not entirely sure what combinations I’ll be making or what the final outcome would be; but I’m giddy with excitement.

Day 7: All’s Well That Ends Well 

Talk about ending with a bang. Today’s Smoothie lineup is simply divine. This was really a treat. If your not a fan of peanut butter then this isn’t for you. 

Two recipes to congratulate myself in seeing this through. Because honestly, I don’t think I’ve completed any diet challenge since I started out the weight-loss journey. So for me this an accomplishment. 

Ran out and got me some protein powder yesterday so I could finish up. I was in tears as I handed over my card to pay but what can a girl do. 

So here goes, Recipe 1

2 cups Rice Milk

2 cups Spinach 

2 Bananas 

2 tablespoons Peanut Butter 

2 tablespoons Protein Powder 

4 tablespoons Chai seeds

Recipe 2

1 cup Spinach 

1 cup Soy Milk  

1 Banana  

1 cup Cucumber 

1 cup Apple 

2 tablespoons Protein Powder 

Day 6: Is It Cheating If… 

It’s not a sprint, it’s a marathon. That’s what I keep telling myself to get through this 7 day Challenge. Will I continue incorporating green smoothies into meal plan going forward, yep I would. Yes it’s been challenging but I feel lighter, a little light headed and my tummy is shrinking [finally]. 

Getting back to my experiment with Chia seeds and Avocado, it does help curb hunger but not for long. I had to eat 2 hard boiled eggs and some Almond nuts  yesterday to curb the hunger pangs. 

Today I had a Pineapple and Banana Green Smoothie. Pretty straight forward – 3 cups Spinach, 2 cups Pineapple, 3 Bananas. Threw in some Chia seeds, Almond nuts and cashews. Now this is really tasty and satisfies my sweet tooth. 

To the cheating reference. I succumbed to the hunger pangs and got a salad for lunch/dinner. It’s veggies so I don’t think I’m derailing my progress. Or am I?

Day 5: I See The Light

Yesterday was hard. The headaches were bad so I had some All Bran before bed. Couldn’t exercise either so I’m feeling funny.So I did some early reading and found that my measurements were wrong. I was supposed to use more Chia seeds with the avocados or the oats or even with plant based protein powders. 

So here goes, My Strawberry, Blueberry Banana Mix

2 cups Spinach 

1 cup Strawberry 

1 cup Blueberry 

2 cups freshly squeezed Orange juice [the pix didn’t capture it] 

2 Bananas

1 cup Water 

1/4 Avocado 

4 tbs Chia Seed

A handful of Almond nuts

End product

Breakfast is served. Yummy. 

Hope this keeps me through the day. 

Day 4: Is That Hunger Pangs I Feel? 

So it’s been 4 days since I last ate food or as my people would saysay, ‘since I last ate pepper’.  Does it feel weird? Not particularly. But I do feel the beginning of hunger pangs and a little bit of the woozies. 

Since these juices are meant to be meal replacements and are packed with the daily nutrients required, I am a little miffed that I might be a little under nourished. 

Saw somewhere that Whey Protein should do the trick but the price tags on those things made me almost burst into tears at the supermarket. There they were, mocking me and daring me to reach for the pack, which I didn’t. 

Going to stick with the recipes as is and hope that what I feel isn’t hunger pangs but me just missing the taste of pepper. 

So what am I drinking today? Well I decided to try 2 different smoothies today, so here goes. [Sorry no pix today] 

Mix 1:

1.  1.5 cup spinich

2. 2 bananas 

3. 1.5 apples

4. 1 cup Soya milk

5. Half cup water

6. 2 tablespoons Almond nuts 

7. Half an avocado

8. 1 tablespoon Chia seeds
Mix 2:

1. 1.5 cup spinach 

2. 1.5 cup strawberries 

3. Half an Avocado 

4. 1 banana 

5. 1.5 cup Soya milk

6. 1 tablespoon honey

7. 2 tablespoons cashew nuts

8. 2 tablespoons Chia seeds

I read somewhere that Chia seeds curb hunger so I’m doubly miffed about how I’m feeling right now. 

Day 3: Juice Fast Essentials

It pays to pre pack. 

I am always busy. Breezing out to work early and coming in late. So when I read a post on Pinterest about packing and freezing green Smoothie Mixes I was like, that post was meant to save me this week. 

So I present my Raspberry Green Smoothie mix. Consumed after getting my butt kicked by Charlene Johnson’s Turbo Fire and Charlean Extreme. 

What’s in the blender? 

3 cups Spinach 

2 cups Raspberries 

2 cups Plums

1 Avocado Pear

1 cup Coconut Milk 

1 cup Water

2 tablespoons Almond nuts

Smoothie Day 2: A Case Of Tummy Trouble

 

So it’s day 2 and I can’t say I have a hang of drinking my Green breakfast and lunch but I feel a little more confident about my chances of seeing this through to the end.

Backtracking a little to the early hours of the morning and my sensitive stomach’s response to my transverse into the world of healthy drinking, I felt I wouldn’t be able to make it out the door but I’m happy to report I eventually made it out, yippee.

So here’s my day in retrospect, 30 minutes of Shaun T’s Max Out Cardio and another 40 minutes of Cize, I had some nuts and downed my first cup of Greens. It was a miracle my stomach stayed stable while I was out seeing ‘Now You See Me 2’ which I must say was Amaze-balls so now it’s on to the last cup of greens.

Ever since I could remember I’ve been hounded about my weight so from a very young age I started exercising with my mum who was also trying to slim down.

As I think back to my hits, misses, partial successes and complete failures at weight-loss, I have to commend myself on my consistency in at least keeping the struggle alive.

Today I start yet another weight-loss adventure in Green Smoothies which will replace 2 of my meals for the next 7 days. Fear not for me dear friends cos I know I will survive.

So cheers to all those who drink their lunch as against eating it.

Contents of my Green Smoothie
1. 3 lemons
2. 1 orange
3. 3 bananas
4. Half a cup of oats
5. 3 tablespoons cashews
6. 3 cups spinach

The Pain Of Exercise

Feel the endorphins; exercise gives you a natural high; don’t you just love the feeling you get when you exercise?

Lies, all lies cos I’m constantly in pain.

I’m not new to exercising. I survived the screaming bully that is Jillian Michaels and endured her torture and her tortured tools

At the end of it all the fat wasn’t banished, my body wasn’t ripped nor shredded and my body, though down a few inches, wasn’t revolutionized.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying these exercises didn’t work, no; they just didn’t give the drastic results championed by the infomercials. I had high hopes for the duration of my journey with Jillian Michaels but those expectations got the life snuffed out of them at the end of every program I tried. I lost some weigh but not all.

So I decided to curb my expectations and search for a fitness DVD that would get me closer to my goal within an allotted timeframe. I watched countless YouTube videos and read an endless number of blogs and reviews before selecting my next torture tool. Enter P90X – Power 90 X.

My weight loss journey started in May of 2012 after I tore through my dress at a function – it was 12noon. I held the dress together with safety pins for the duration of the event as I was the event planner and couldn’t leave. After the event, I drove straight to the gym and enrolled to start the very next day. I was so humiliated.

Starting out I was a size 20 bordering on size 22. Now one year later I am a size 18 still fighting to become a size 14 before January – fingers crossed.

Transitioning from going to the gym to a Jillian Michaels DVD was difficult and I cursed her every time I popped her DVD in. Good times. Now transitioning into weight training is something of a challenge as I do not have upper body strength.

P90X involves a lot of pushups, pull ups and planks – no walk in the park; and whoever said Yoga was a breeze was just fooling around. Yesterday was Yoga X day and Tony expected me to do this!

P90Hell No

Give me weights and I’ll lift them, but for crying out loud ‘Crane’, ‘Pushups with one leg in the air’! Seriously dude! And I don’t know where to find the time to exercise for 1hour at a stretch, God help me.

I don’t know what I’ve signed up for cos I couldn’t scrub my back in the shower this morning from the pain.

I hope I can live through this. Wish me luck.
